Structures

Despite all the advantages to maintaining and adding trains to an elevated layout, there are some drawbacks when above ground level.  You need to add shelves to include any scenery.  I already knew what I wanted before the track was ever installed; a train station and a microbrewery.  Sharyl built the Grizzly Flats Station and we ordered a shelf to support it with the track.

A short time later we ordered a longer shelf to hold the brewery.  Sharyl built it from a PIKO kit and it was placed on the north loop of the layout.

The south loop contains a scene from Walt's Barn in Griffith Park thanks to Ted.

Ted also modified an Aristocraft Station Depot with covered passenger platforms.  Dennis Flores provided the water tank.  It looks similar to the Disneyland Railroad Frontierland Station.

Without a doubt, the best structure at GrandpaLand hangs in the engine shed.  It is a scale model of the Goleta Depot, a very special location for the Grandkids (and me) to ride the miniature train that surrounds the station at the South Coast Railroad Museum.
